Wedding Albums

There are few things in my business that get me as pumped as when I hear the UPS truck squeal to a stop in front of my house and a little box land on my doorstep containing a masterful work of art that is a client’s album. No matter what I’m doing, I drop it… tear into the box… and eagerly flip through each layout. Then I run to find my wife and make her indulge me by looking through each album as well and telling me how awesome she thinks it is. It’s true… I lead an interesting life around here.

So, I’ve been wanting to do this blog post for a while to give you a better idea of what my wedding albums look like, and why I think they are so stinking awesome.

I offer two different types of albums in my different wedding collections //
Large Flushmount Albums / Medium Flushmount Albums

// WHAT THE HECK IS A “FLUSHMOUNT ALBUM”?

So glad you asked! Flushmount albums are going to have very thick pages that will last longer than you will. I’ve heard some of my clients describe them as pages like you would find in a children’s book (although I cringe at comparing the two, I thought that was pretty accurate). These books in general are much thicker and have more of a presence about them. I use an amazing company called Red Tree Albums for all of my flushmount albums. I use them primarily because I feel like they produce a product that looks timeless, elegant and like fine-art. They offer two amazing options for cover materials: Japanese Fine-Art Fabrics + Italian Leather … both of which have a very natural/organic look to them (which of course makes me think they are super-cool)!

The Large Album is 12×12 and consists of 20 spreads (40 pages). It’s a really great way to document the whole feel of your wedding in one place that you can look through for years to come.

The Medium Album is 10×8 and consists of 10 spreads (20 pages).

// WHAT CAN I GET FOR MY PARENTS?

Several of my clients have surprised their parents with the gift of a smaller version of their wedding album as a way of saying thank you for all they have done. If the main wedding album is one of my Flushmount Albums, there is a really cool option of getting a Mini Parent Album to go along with it. These are basically an exact replica of the larger album scaled down to 5×5. Ask me about options and we can talk through it.

So, why get a wedding album at all? As I’ve shot several years worth of weddings, I noticed early on that clients that didn’t purchase a wedding album turned out to be clients that also rarely ever got around to printing any photos from their wedding or doing anything other than putting that disc/USB drive up on a shelf and hoping the dog didn’t run off with it. They just got through spending thousands of dollars on photography to remember one of the biggest days in their life, and months later, they literally had nothing to show for it or remember that day with.

A wedding album takes so much of the pressure off of you to do something with your photos. I design your layouts based on how I feel the story of the day would be told best. You then get to proof it and make any changes you desire. I submit the order. Bam… within a few weeks you have something to put on your coffee table and flip through occasionally when there are nothing but reruns on the TV or when friends come over and want to get a glimpse into what you guys were like 5 years ago. It’s so easy and so wonderful.
