16 Exposures

I often keep a camera loaded with a roll of black and white film handy around the house to capture our crazy family at the drop of a hat. Those are the kinds of portraits I want to create of my kids… just the everyday stuff that makes us love them so much.

Recently, Sara walked in to my office, handed me our little guy and asked me if I could entertain him for 10 minutes while she ordered something online. At a loss in the moment of what to do with him, I grabbed my medium format camera (Contax 645) and popped in a roll of Kodak Tri-X 400 and set off to shoot all 16 exposures during our little time together. I also ended up pulling Sara in to a few portraits and even convinced our middle child to come out for just a few… our oldest didn’t fall for my tricks!

I spent the next morning developing the roll in our kitchen and hanging it in my window to dry. One of my new favorite things is to unroll a spool of freshly developed wet negatives, clip it to a coat hanger in the window, and see what was created for the first time. It’s one of the coolest things.

So, I thought it would be fun to share all 16 exposures here so you can get a little glimpse at our normal life.
